When you apply for individual
and family health insurance, your chosen insurance company reviews your medical
history, including any pre-existing conditions that you may have. If you think you may have a pre-existing condition,
you can contact an eHealthInsurance licensed insurance agent
at 1-877-343-2584 (M - F 6am - 5pm PT ) for advice. Insurance companies
(and states) have varying policies as to whether or not they will issue
a new health insurance policy for people with these circumstances, and our
agents will be able to provide advice based on your specific medical history.
Insurance Alternatives
You may wish to investigate some of the state-sponsored alternatives available
in your state. These alternatives may be appropriate for those who cannot afford individual or family insurance or whose pre-existing conditions make them ineligible to obtain individual or family insurance. Additionally,
federal law offers some protection for HIPAA-eligible individuals (those
who are leaving group health coverage they have had for at least 18 months,
have exhausted COBRA coverage and meet certain requirements). Please note that alternatives (and the corresponding eligibility requirements) vary by state. More detailed information
for each state is available at www.healthinsuranceinfo.net,
a web site established by the Institute for Health Care Research and Policy,
at Georgetown University. |
